Tesla Powerwall: expensive, slow, obsolete. Why A Todo Sol may stop installing it

In 2026 there is no reason to buy a Tesla Powerwall: expensive, slow to install, awful SAT. A Todo Sol is considering ending its Tesla collaboration.

We are Tesla car people. We have run six Model Ys. We show up to install in a Model Y or a Model 3. We have passed two million kilometres fully electric. Tesla has sold a lot of cars because of us: referrals, and because customers saw what the car can charge like every time we arrived at their house. For us Tesla vehicles are the best on the market.

That is why this is harder to say: if someone is selling you a Tesla Powerwall because “it’s Tesla”, stop. The car is one thing. The home battery is another. In 2026 there is no reason to buy one: it is expensive, slow to install, ships un-updated, depends on the internet for almost everything, and when it fails Tesla’s technical support does not match the price. That is why A Todo Sol is considering ending its collaboration with Tesla — Energy, not the cars.

What we have to say plainly

We do not recommend buying a Powerwall today. There are better, cheaper batteries with a SAT that picks up the phone. A Tesla installer certificate is not an endorsement of the product.

Expensive, slow, tied to their cloud

A 13.5 kWh Powerwall 3, with Gateway and expansions, costs on the order of five times what you pay per useful kWh in the LiFePO₄ batteries we do install (Deye, Dyness). The premium is sold on the car brand. On site, the product is something else:

  • Slow to install. It is not hang-it-and-done. Stale factory firmware, a long update, Tesla One, Gateway, comms, diagnostics. A Powerwall commissioning is a configuration session, not a torque job. A Deye hybrid, next to it, is a different trade.
  • Without internet, there is almost no unit. Updates, logs, escalation, Job Check Out: all of it goes through Tesla’s cloud. On a finca or in a village with patchy coverage, the premium battery is an expensive cabinet until someone brings a 4G router.
  • Obsolete on the 2026 market. Spanish homes have modular LFP, whole-house backup and spares that ship without turning every fault into a religion. Powerwall is still 13.5 kWh, NMC, expensive and tied to Tesla One.

If what you want is the logo in the plant room, this is the price of that logo. If what you want is the house to work, there are alternatives.

SAT: why we are considering cutting the channel

We have been certified Tesla Powerwall installers since 2023. We are not writing from a forum. We are writing from site and from a phone that nobody picks up.

This week a customer of ours has a brand-new Powerwall 3 — expansion modules already purchased — in arc fault. PV was physically disconnected from the unit and it still tripped. Tesla will not swap the battery. They offer to patch a disconnect, they ask for a full roof inspection (thermal of the panels under load included) and, when a certified installer opens the Partner Portal to look up RMA rates, the page loads blank:

Tesla Partner Portal blank on 18 September 2026
Tesla Partner Portal, 18 September 2026. That is the “support” they point us to.

With Deye, Dyness or Pylontech, if the unit is born wrong, the unit is changed. With Tesla, the installer plays free laboratory and the customer is left with a premium battery down. At five times the price, that is not a serious product. It is a channel we cannot defend in front of you.

So we say it without anaesthetic: A Todo Sol is considering ending its collaboration with Tesla because of that technical support. There is no commercial sense in pushing a product that, when it fails, leaves both customer and installer hanging.

What we do install

Deye and Dyness. LiFePO₄. Whole-house backup. Market price. If the unit is born wrong, the unit is changed. And the phone is picked up — Saturdays and Sundays too.

If you already have a Powerwall

This is not us walking away from you. If we installed it, we remain your contact: diagnosis, warranty, the fight with the manufacturer. The article is about not selling another battery we cannot defend. Anyone who already has one is not left alone between a Tesla voicemail and a blank portal.

Compare kWh, compare SAT, compare what happens the day the unit trips. The decent answer fits in one sentence: you change the battery. If the brand cannot say that, do not buy it. For now, we will not recommend it.
